The 1993 Thunderbird was the first in the nameplate's history not to be offered with a V8 engine, which put the entire weight of the Super Coupe's reputation squarely on the supercharged 3.8 liter V6. It delivered. Automotive journalists at the time noted that if the Super Coupe had worn a BMW badge instead of a blue oval, it would have been accepted without question as a serious European-style GT coupe.
